Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes how VacayRadar ("we", "us", "the app") handles your information. We built the app to be private by default — we do not run a user-account system, we do not sell data, and we do not embed third-party trackers in the app binary.

1. Information we collect

The app collects only the minimum data needed to function:

Location (when granted) — used only to find hotels near you when you tap "Use My Location". We do not store, transmit, or share your coordinates outside of the live search request.
Search preferences — your last search and search history (max 10 entries) are stored locally on your device only, in AsyncStorage. They never leave your phone.
Theme preference — light or dark mode, stored locally.

We do not collect:

Your name, email, phone number, or any identifier
Your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera
Advertising IDs
Crash analytics that identify you (if a future analytics tool ships, it will be anonymous and disclosed here)

2. Third-party data we display

VacayRadar aggregates publicly-available data from these sources. When you open a hotel detail screen, the app sends the hotel's latitude / longitude to each service to fetch the relevant info — never with your identity attached:

FBI Crime Data Explorer (api.usa.gov) — neighborhood crime statistics
Google Places (New) — hotel listings, photos, attractions, autocomplete suggestions
Google Aerial View / Maps Static — 360° aerial videos and satellite imagery
OpenStreetMap Overpass — police-station and points-of-interest density
Open-Meteo — 7-day weather forecast and sunset times
Ticketmaster Discovery API — events near the hotel during your trip dates
OpenChargeMap — EV charging station locations

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We don't pass any personally-identifying information to them.

2. Affiliate links

When you tap "Book Now", "Rent a car", "Travel insurance", "Tours", or a "Tickets" button, the app opens the corresponding partner site in your device browser. Those partner sites use cookies and tracking under their privacy policies, not ours.

VacayRadar may earn a commission if you complete a booking or purchase through these links. We never receive personal information about your purchase — only an aggregated "you sent a successful conversion" signal from the affiliate network. Our partners are:

Booking.com Partners (hotels)
Discover Cars (car rentals)
SafetyWing (travel insurance)
GetYourGuide (tours and experiences)
Ticketmaster / Partnerize (event tickets)

3. Local storage on your device

The app saves three things to your device's local storage (AsyncStorage). These never leave the device:

Your last successful hotel search (so the home screen rehydrates)
Your search history (the last 10 deduped searches)
Your theme preference (light or dark)

You can wipe all of this by deleting the app or by using the "Clear" link in your search history.

4. Children's privacy

VacayRadar is intended for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.

5. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and (when applicable) post a notice in the app. The current version is always available at vacayradar.us/privacy.html.
